To train junior officer and NCO instructors in fieldcraft skills and thus prevent recurring deterioration of skills. To return professional level skills to the command echelon.
IDF sergeants acquire rank through seniority. They are not necessarily NCOs by virtue of their rank. Junior officers and squad leaders are very young – 19-20 years old. They are the unit instructors.
Due to the multiple missions of the unit command groups (officer and NCO), and the need to train troops quickly in many fields, fieldcraft skills in the IDF ground forces have degraded over the years.
Fieldcraft skills constitute the fundamental basis for every soldier to understand and utilize the environment within which s/he operates, and when used properly, significantly improve tactical behavior and thus reduce vulnerability to death and injury.
